FIVE OF THE MOST EXTRAVAGANT CELEBRITY WEDDINGS

We all know that organizing a wedding can be pretty expensive at the best of times, but throw a rich and famous bride or groom into the mix and things move on to a whole new level. Here are some of the most extravagant celebrity weddings of all time.

1. David and Victoria Beckham

Back in 1999 Posh and Becks were basically the king and queen of England, and what better way to acknowledge that title than to don a diamond encrusted, 18-carat gold crown and sit atop a velvet throne at your own wedding? Their royal themed wedding reception reportedly had two serving staff per guest.

2. Petra Ecclestone and James Stunt

The formula one heiress flew guests to Italy to take part in a lavish ceremony. The couple even closed down a medieval town for the occasion, and if the $6000 a bottle Champagne wasn’t enough to impress, guests were also privy to music from a star-studded lineup that included David Guetta, The Black Eyed Peas, and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to name a few. Who needs festival season anyway?

3. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

Did we really expect Kimye to keep their wedding a modest, low-key affair? Performing their nuptials in front of a historic castle in the beautiful Florence, the couple hired the likes of John Legend and Andrea Bocelli to provide the soundtrack to the big day. Not a pair to follow the crowd, they shunned regular, boring old place cards in favor of engraving each name on their couple of hundred long guest list onto marble tables.

4. Liza Minnelli and David Gest

The wedding with perhaps the most impressive guest list of all time: Best man Michael Jackson, and Maid of Honor Elizabeth Taylor, Diana Ross, and Sir Elton John were just a few of the 1000 guests at the wedding. If you’re wondering how their ‘tiny’ 12-tier wedding cake managed to go around 1000 people; it didn’t. Guests were, of course, given their own personalized cake from the happy couple.

5. Prince William and Kate Middleton

There have been a lot of different numbers thrown around guessing the price of the Britain’s biggest royal wedding since Posh and Becks tied the knot. But does it really get much more extravagant than making your wedding a public holiday? The royal wedding in 2011 literally closed down a country. And was watched worldwide on television, and by the close to 2000 (notable) guests that were in attendance.
